WDU Community Visited Abay Dam Project
Woldia university staffs, more than hundred in number, have visited the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam Project on 24/08/06 E.C. The crew was warmly welcomed on its arrival and an introductory speech was given by the chief engineer of the project Engineer Semegnew Bekele. During his speech, Mr. Semegnew stressed the great significance of this project for the country’s renaissance in its economical development and uncountable benefits it gives to each individual of the country upon its completion.
Similarly, Professor Yalew Endaweke, President of Woldia University, on his part has stated that the project has enormous value for the country and for Higher Education Institutions like Woldia University, suggesting that it can be used as immense research centre in the future. He also acknowledged the workers working on the project and stated his pleasure to have the chance of visiting the dam and be part of this historic project on the behalf of the university’s community.
Moreover, the crew has also visited Tana Beles Multi Purpose Projects: Beles Hydroelectric Power Station, which generates 460 MW, and Beles Integrated Sugar Development Project. Most of the visitors have expressed their satisfaction over this educative and informative visit to these grand projects of the country. Such move by the university need to be accredited, for it allows its staff to get new experiences and build their capacity of actual career.
